Carter 7K and 8K Trailer Axle Kits Now Include an Upgraded Heavy Duty Suspension Kit
At Trailer Parts Unlimited, we believe a trailer axle kit should include components designed to work together. Heavy duty trailer axles deserve heavy duty suspension components.
That is why all Carter 7,000 lb and 8,000 lb trailer axle kits equipped with slipper springs now come with our upgraded heavy duty hanger suspension kit.
This is not just a basic hanger kit thrown into the package. It includes stronger weld on hangers, upgraded equalizers with rubber bushings, greaseable bolts, and corrosion resistant zinc plated hardware.
Why We Upgraded Our 7K and 8K Trailer Axle Kits
When people compare trailer axle kits online, they often focus only on the axle capacity and price. However, the axles are only one part of the complete suspension system.
The leaf springs, hangers, equalizers, spring bolts, and U-bolts all work together to support the trailer and distribute weight between the axles. Installing heavy duty 7K or 8K trailer axles with a light duty suspension kit does not make sense.
Carter trailer axle kits are built to provide better overall value, not simply the lowest advertised price with basic components.

Heavy Duty Weld On Spring Hangers
The suspension hangers are the connection points between the trailer frame and the leaf spring suspension. These components must handle the movement, impact, and weight transferred through the trailer suspension.
The upgraded kit uses 4 inch wide hangers for a stronger mounting foundation. This is especially important on equipment trailers, dump trailers, gooseneck trailers, and other trailers regularly used to carry heavy loads.
Upgraded Equalizers With Rubber Bushings
The equalizers help transfer weight and movement between the front and rear axles. As one axle travels over a bump or uneven surface, the equalizer allows the suspension to move and helps distribute the load between both axles.
The upgraded 12 inch equalizers included with our Carter axle kits feature rubber bushings. These bushings help cushion movement at the equalizer connection point while reducing direct metal to metal contact.
The equalizers are also powder coated for additional surface protection.
Greaseable Suspension Bolts
Trailer suspension components move every time the trailer travels down the road. Without proper lubrication, the contact points can wear faster and eventually develop excessive movement.
The upgraded hanger kit includes greaseable spring and equalizer bolts with zerk fittings. This allows you to lubricate the suspension contact points during routine trailer maintenance.
Keeping these points properly greased can help reduce friction, limit premature wear, and extend the service life of the suspension components.
Zinc Plated Hardware
Basic trailer suspension kits often include standard steel bolts that can begin developing surface rust after exposure to moisture, road grime, and weather.
The upgraded Carter hanger kit includes zinc plated hardware for improved corrosion resistance and longer service life. It is another small upgrade that can make a significant difference over time.
Not All Trailer Axle Kits Are Created Equal
Two trailer axle kits may appear similar in a picture, but that does not mean they include the same quality of components.
Before purchasing a 7K or 8K trailer axle kit, carefully review everything included in the package.
Does it include heavy duty weld on hangers?
Does it include upgraded equalizers with rubber bushings?
Are the suspension bolts greaseable?
Is the hardware zinc plated?
Are the equalizers powder coated?
The advertised price does not tell the entire story. A cheaper package may use basic hangers, standard equalizers, non-greaseable bolts, and untreated hardware. Replacing those components later can cost more in parts, labor, and downtime.
